During one of my counseling sessions recently, a couple asked me a straight forward question which is ‘People say marriage is work, WHAT EXACTLY IS THAT WORK’? My response was simple: The work isn’t like the way you work at your job but more of a fun work which focuses on adaptability, commitment and building a healthy life system within the marriage.
In other words our energy should be on building beautiful memories with our partner as we work together towards fulfilling God’s purpose for our lives. Being intentional about this would make you and your partner not lose yourself as it is very easy to drift in marriage if certain things are not done.
Building fun memories with your partner is very essential for fostering a strong and lasting relationship. These memories create a shared bond, strengthen emotional connections, and serve as a source of joy during challenging times. They also enhance communication, promote intimacy, and deepen the overall connection between partners. Plus, reminiscing about fun times can reignite feelings of love and appreciation for each other, reinforcing the foundation of your relationship.
So today, irrespective of your temperament and personality type, be it introvert or extrovert, find ways to connect on a deeper level with your partner and start building your fun memory book. This is where the work of marriage is. Let your memory bank not just be full of the painful and sad moments but also of beautiful sweet memories.
